Blog Journal 10

After my time here at Florida State, I aspire to be a second-grade teacher. I would use data collection tools to gauge my students' understanding. I remember being in school and my teachers would use a learning scale with a range of 1 to 5. 1 would be the lowest score meaning I did not understand completely. 5 would be the highest score meaning that I understood completely. This is useful because students can reflect on the lessons. Then my students can individually let me know what they need help with.

The topics that I found most interesting on my classmates’ blogs are the website design and the newsletter design. I think that everyone did a pretty good job on these two topics. There was a lot of creativity and good designs and layouts. I also really enjoyed reading introductions and meeting my classmates there. One last topic that I found interesting is the privacy issue. Privacy is a very real and relatable issue in our world of technology today.

Technology-related skills are important to have especially now during the pandemic. A skill that I would like to learn next is design. I would like to use design in my classroom to create my lesson plans and manage my class website. I think that this would help me to have more interactive and engine lessons because I desire to teach elementary school. I will achieve this goal by using YouTube, Wix, and Canva. I have experience using these tools and they are easy to use. I think with a lot of practice I can learn how to make interactive and engaging lessons.

Blog Journal 9

Now that I have become a distance learner I have lost some of my motivation for learning. I think that meeting after meeting without physical interaction can get boring. I dislike how everything has become more of a burden than an experience. For example, completing half of your assignment and then your internet goes out or your computer crashes. Now you have to wait for these issues to be resolved, the assignment takes longer and becomes less interesting. To improve the experience of my future students I think do things that are more interactive and ensuring that if possible most work of the homework can be done effectively.

Open Education Resources is just what it sounds like. Educational resources that are open and available to anyone to use. Teachers can use these resources as long as they provide the proper credit to the owner when using or reproducing these resources. Not only can teachers access these resources but students can as well. Here is a link to a blog about Open Educational Resources: https://blog.tcea.org/tag/open-education-resources/

The new skills that I have acquired from the Powerpoint assignment is learning how to audibly present and save that file. I also learned the difference between a linear and a non-linear PowerPoint. I liked how the First PowerPoint looked after I completed everything. I did not like adding the shapes and transitions to the non-linear Powerpoint so far. If I were to do this assignment again, I would focus more of the logistics of the powerpoint instead of the designs. Down below is some of my work for these two assignments.

The Web Design was an interesting assignment to complete. I learned how to create a web page frozen. I also learned how to add images and apps on the Wix platform. I liked how the website came with a template, weebly was pretty hard to use because it had no set templates. This assignment can be used to create a teacher website for myself. I can see myself using this website to post information for my students and their parents. I linked my website down below:

Using Diigo I learned how to annotate and bookmark websites. This application can be useful for myself in the classroom by creating a treasure chest of tools to use in my classroom. Team members can use this tool to find useful resources for their teams. In my individual professional efforts I can use Diigo to find websites that will be useful to me in my classroom and save resources for myself.

Technology is very embedded in our society and it is constantly changing. A part of being successful is being proficient in technology. Today teachers need to be highly proficient with technology. As a teacher a website that I could use to stay informed of technology trends in education is elearningindustry.com. This website has articles trends, learning systems, design and development, instructional design, best practices, free resources for learning how to use technology. On the websites there are also events and seminars. What I like about this website is the vast amount of information that is available.

I think that class pages are needed and can be useful for students, staff, and parents. I visited the FSUS school website. The type of information that you will see on the page depends on grade level and the teacher. When visiting a page for a second-grade class, I saw newsletters, information about the teacher, maps, and a welcome page.

I envision myself using technology the best way I know-how. I like the idea of having a class page. I think that it will help to keep me organized. I will also use electronic calendars so that I can set reminders and have them accessible. So far, I have used Grammarly and I think that I will continue to use it. I will use tools that are easy to use and understand, but the most important reason for using tools would be to help me be more efficient

PB work is a great site to use. However, it is a bit complicated to learn how to use it. Joining my team members page was a bit of a challenge. I like how the site was easy to navigate, once the work was completed. I dislike how confusing the site was to use at first. I could use a wiki if I taught high school students to mimic social media in a way, but also provide them with easy access to resources. So, I would be the owner of the page and have my students add anything that they feel is useful or beneficial.

Down below I have included a link and a screenshot for the class website.

Blog Journal 6

 Hello there!

So far my experience with Diigo has been a learning journey. Before this class I was unfamiliar with Diigo. I like that Diigo is like an archive of information. I think if a group of teachers used Diigo it would be very beneficial and save them time when looking for resources.

Blogging has been great so far. I have never had to manage a blog for a class. However, because of the popularity of blogs I see the usefulness of having a blog for this class. I do not like that sometimes I have to log in to make a comment on other people’s blogs. Overall, I am learning a lot managing my blog so I like it.

An interesting Web 2.0 tool that I might use when teaching is Edmodo. I remember being in middle school when Edmodo was introduced to me. I personally really like it and I think it is easy to use and very beneficial. I like that parents can be a part of the classroom community as well. Edmodo allows parents, teachers, and students to make an account. It has many resources available on the site and an option to create a free account for its users. Overall, I think it is very practical for the times that we are in.

Hello!

So far my experience using Twitter has been okay. I have lost my password and username a few times. However, I have been able to post and follow people with ease. I have interacted with Professor Choi and other classmates so far. I found Twitter to be beneficial for sharing what is on my mind. I think it will teach me how to connect with others in a more sociable way outside of work.

The digital divide is omnipresent in our society even though we live in a digital world. Electronics can be expensive and inaccessible to groups of people. The digital divide causes students to fail behind their peers in school. The causes of the digital divide can be age and resources. As a second grade teacher, I may have students who are very young and are not used to using technology in a classroom.

Academic software includes things that stimulate students and further their understanding of certain material. The two software tools I would like to implement in my future classroom educational games and apps. I think that these two software programs will be very beneficial because I will be teaching young students. Educational games and apps are very easy to use at their age. The difference between the two is that a game is just for fun or entertainment purposes. Apps are more functional and allow you to do things like create, save and change.

Hello!

The ELA standards are the standards used to measure students' ability and demonstrate mastery of literature. I am interested in becoming an elementary school teacher, preferably second-grade students. One ELA standard for second-grade students is creating recordings of literature; add images or other visual tools to literature or narrations when needed to explain ideas, thoughts, or emotions. I feel prepared to implement this standard based on my current skill set because I love animation and storytelling. I think that I am good at retelling stories once I grasp an understanding of the story.

After looking on the CPALMS website a tool/resource that I would use for my second-grade classroom is the Telling Time with Tomas activity. In this activity students use a previously learned skill set counting by 5’s to tell time. I would use this tool/resource because after reviewing it I found it to be really interesting and interactive. Also, in many of the tools/resources on this website, the previously learned skill set is also reviewed which I think will be very beneficial to students.

Internet searching is very important. Internet searching provides its user with easy and quick access to information they may have not known previously or needed quickly. As a teacher, it is important to be proficient as a teacher because you will be put in a situation where you need to find information quickly and be able to present it correctly. This week I learned how to use the reverse image search tool.
