Blog Journal 2

Hello! I typically enjoy using Microsoft Word. My K-12 experience was both positive and negative. The tools available in MS word made it easy to format papers. MS Word was a bit harder for me to use at that time as I still had to get familiar with a lot of the functions. However, my experience here at Florida State was both positive and negative. The MS word online that FSU offers to its students for free does not have a lot of the needed functions to use it successfully. Despite this, because I am more experienced with MS Word, I can use a lot of its functions better. Honestly, before apps were available I would have preferred to use Google docs. However, I can download the software app on my phone and use it, if I do not have access to a computer.

The ISTE stands for International Society for Technology in Education. There are a set of standards for students, teachers, educational leaders, technology coaches, and computer science educators. These standards are for technology use in education.  The standard that is most meaningful to me is being a leader. Being a leader can be defined as someone who looks for ways to use leadership to support student empowerment and success and for ways to improve teaching and learning.

Today youth are being classified as digital natives. I think that youth can be classified as digital natives. However, I do think that there are other generations apart of the population who are not youth but they are digital natives. To be a digital native means that you are someone who has a strong relationship with technology. Differences that I have seen with digital natives and digital immigrants is the skills and awareness of certain technologies. This difference negatively affected my learning experiences at times. I think as a future teacher I have to be ready to be constantly learning about the new technologies available. My students will have access to things that I may not need to have access to. However, I will have to be aware of these things to be a better educator.
